Puppy Kindergarten
Class Description:
Early development and socialization is very important for dogs. Like children, dogs learn several things most readily while they are young:
- how to communicate with other dogs
- how to communicate with their humans
- what behaviors are appreciated by other dogs and humans
- what behaviors are unacceptable to other dogs and humans
This class is for all puppies and their owners. This is where all the training and socialization that is so important for puppies' growth is begun. It is also where new owners first begin to learn about dogs' body language and pack order. Experienced dog owners are also encouraged to enroll in order to ensure their puppies are well-socialized and are quickly introduced to new sights and smells to make behavior training an easier process later on. Eligible puppies are enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.
People are taught:
- how to be their dogs' leaders
- how to care for their dogs
- different techniques of effective training like clickers
Puppies learn:
- their place in the familiy, or 'pack'
- how to interact and play with other dogs
- how to treat their owners
- basic commands like 'sit' and 'down'
Prerequisites:
- All dogs are required to have had two vaccination shots in the normal puppy vaccination series before attending the first class.
- The maximum age for dogs in this class is 16 weeks, but this can be flexible depending on size and temperament.
- There are no prerequisite classes for enrollment.
